However, many do not own the livestock nor have access to the resources they need to fair pricing for their milk. This leads to mothers struggling to earn enough to support their families. Their daughters also face higher risks of poor health, like anemia, and are more likely to drop out of school limiting their opportunities to pursue a career.

Nisha, 17, lost her father to heart disease 10 years ago. Since then, her mother, Thenmozhi, has struggled to provide for Nisha and her brother on her limitedincome from caring for cattle. Nisha dreams of working in heart care one day, but like many girls in her community, Thenmozhi worries Nisha may leave schooland marry young if their economic situation doesn’t improve.
Donations to the project will help the family acquire more cattle and build financial stability, so Nisha can continue her studies and pursue her dream. When women earn more and have greater control over income, entire families benefit. This is the idea behind “Mothers Earn, Daughters Learn”.
