Our leadership

Don Mitchell,

Don Mitchell

“My childhood dream was to become an RCMP officer, until I realized I could be shot.”

Three words that best describe him

strong, caring, authentic

What’s his role and connection to the cause?

Don Mitchell’s results-driven approach in improving processes, financial reporting, risk management, internal audit and the development of people guides him in his role at Children Believe.

As a leader in shared services at World Vision Canada, Don was instrumental in implementing automation, resulting in significant cost-savings; improving internal controls; and accessing quality, timely information so informed operational decisions were possible. He honed this skill-set in senior roles at two family businesses and The Salvation Army.

At Children Believe, Don oversees finance, IT, internal audit, risk, procurement and facilities.

What academic work set him up for success?

Don holds a bachelor of commerce from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax and later secured his chartered professional accountant (CPA) and certified internal auditor (CIA) designations. He’s a graduate of the Arrow Executive Leadership Course.

Interesting tidbit

Don conducted a brass band for seven years. These days, when he’s not playing tuba, you may find him enjoying a campfire without any digital distractions.
