Giving a gift of hope that will last a lifetime

We all need hope and inspiration, especially during this time of worldwide crisis. It’s why I’m more grateful each day for God’s blessings and for the gift children bring to our lives.

I travelled for more than 20 years as executive director of Children Believe (then Christian Children’s Fund of Canada), and I constantly gave thanks (and still do) for the kids in the programs.

I always saw hope, excitement, love and inspiration in the shining eyes of each of the 100,000+ little ones I met. They do believe. They believe in their parents, their friends and their teachers — their hopes for the future.

Success stories about sponsored children inspire my family and me to redouble our efforts to help. I was thrilled to read in the Children Believe 2019 Annual Report of 10 such successes.

I read about Lucienne from Burkina Faso, where I’ve visited often. She was inspired by her sponsor who told her she was special and had a future. Today, the 32-year-old social worker uses similar words to encourage children she serves. In India, Anandharaj, practices law so he can help his low-caste (or class) community fight false criminal charges.

There are countless success stories fuelled by the energy of 60-years’-worth of sponsors and supporters.
