One youth stands up for her right to education
Watch a graduate give a stirring speech about her struggle to reach post-secondary education
Raised in Yemen, Orubba Almansouri knew girls didn’t go to college. She was led to believe it wasn’t for her.
“At times I cried myself to sleep, after hearing from the people most close to me what college will do to me. It will ruin me, strip me of my identity, my religion, my tradition,” said Orubba, during her graduation speech in New York.
At Christian Children’s Fund of Canada, we believe girls should be empowered to realize their basic rights to go to school and expand their opportunities for positive change in their lives.
Watch Insider’s clip from Orubba’s passionate address to the student body at The City College of New York. See why she was so proud of her success. A couple years later, her message is still an important one.
