Why is it important to help send 100 girls to school for a year this #GivingTuesday?
Learn how you can help give girls a chance to get an education and reach their dreams on Nov. 29
More than one-hundred million girls between the ages of six and 18 are out of school worldwide, reports UNESCO. Just ask girls like Arundhathi in India.
After the eager student finished Grade 12, her family began planning her marriage to help alleviate their financial burdens. Thankfully, the Village Development Committee, and members of the local children club, put a stop to the marriage.
Today, Arundhathi is continuing her education in computer science with the help of a local Women’s Self Help Group, our local partner IRCDS and Children Believe.
The 19-year-old is thankful. “Education sets us free,” she says. “It gives me dignity to stand on my own in society — especially being a girl. Only education can help me with freedom of thought and freedom of decision-making.”
Arundhathi is not alone. The rising cost of living, climate change, armed conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for girls to go to school and stay in school. Some experience child marriage, teen pregnancy, violence and exploitation.
You can help girls like Arundhathi build brighter futures by Sending a Girl to School for a year this #GivingTuesday.
Your gift will support a scholarship, access to life and professional skills-training and gender-related leadership training.
At Children Believe, we’re always working with women, girls and their families to create safe spaces for everyone to learn their rights and keep safe at school.
Join the #GivingTuesday movement Nov. 29 (or today!). Help Children Believe meet our goal to send 100 girls to school.
ABOUT CHILDREN BELIEVE:
Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.
About ChildFund Alliance:
A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
