UN report: millions of children died from preventable causes last year
Much work still to be done globally to keep vulnerable children alive
More than 55-million children under the age of five are projected to die between 2018 and 2030, according to a recent report released by United Nations (UN) agencies, the World Health Organization and The World Bank.
Although there has been progress in the past 25 years, there are still too many newborns, children and youth dying from preventable causes, such as pneumonia, malaria, complications during childbirth and accidents.
“These deaths reflect the limited access of children and communities to basic health interventions such as vaccination, medical treatment of infectious diseases, adequate nutrition and clean water and sanitation,” reads the report.
At Christian Children’s Fund of Canada, we make it a priority to invest in children’s health and the maternal health of women and their babies. We provide medical checkups, health education, nutrition and professional services for them to get the care they need.
