Update about sponsored children in Nicaragua

CCFC provides an update amid tensions in the Central American country where we work

Nicarauga Boy

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to children, their families and our staff in Nicaragua, as the nation faces unrest.

At this time, our sponsored children are safe, and we are on high alert in communities where we work and in our country office. Our team has been taking precautions to keep safe.

This comes after President Ortega announced changes to Nicaragua’s social security system. It sparked protests — some peaceful, some not — that have led to hundreds of injuries and more than 70 deaths.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

ABOUT CHILDREN BELIEVE (formerly Christian Children's Fund of Canada):

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60 years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.
