Children Believe is well positioned for its next chapter

By Patrick Canagasingham, CEO, ceo@childrenbelieve.ca

In March 2020, as I prepare to transition to a new organization, Children Believe will have new leadership take the helm

It’s been an honour to be part of Children Believe. So, it was, (and is) tough to tell the team — and you — of a new opportunity I’ve accepted. But, this isn’t about me, it’s about the great work the team has done, and will continue to do, at Children Believe together.

I can honestly say I’m proud of the path we’ve paved here, first as Christian Children’s Fund of Canada, and then, effective Oct. 1, as Children Believe.

It’s taken a lot of teamwork to get to this point.

But, since I joined the organization in 2017, I’ve been committed to taking a strategic pivot from steering a non-profit organization, focused on sponsoring children around the world, to a global team of leaders helping break barriers so more children can access education.

Now, as an issues-based organization, my colleagues across seven offices have been committed to focusing on addressing and preventing child marriages, child labour and other harmful practices, such as violence against children.

The passionate human-rights advocate in me remains deeply moved by our mission. In fact, I’ve been energized while fostering an environment of collaboration, transparency and accountability with the support of our newly coined Global Leadership Team, comprised of 13 experts leading offices and teams around the world. It’s why I know the work at Children Believe will continue with the same vigour and passion.

I’m very proud of the progress our valued staff, partners and, of course, donors have made possible for children, youth and families around the world.

Indeed, I truly believe there’s a brighter future ahead for Children Believe and the hundreds of thousands of people we help. I’m committed to this work, and I’ll continue serving the most marginalized around the world in my new role as COO of Habitat for Humanity International.

In March, I’ll shift my focus to helping vulnerable people secure a decent place to live.

At Children Believe, look out for new leadership, effective February 2020.

Until then, thank you for trusting me with this important mission to help break barriers to education so children can dream and live fearlessly. I remain honoured and humbled by your support.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.
