CCFC event garners nearly $2,000 for Ethiopian drought relief

A screening of award-winning Ethiopian film draws a crowd and attention to those in need

TORONTO — More than 50 people gathered at Toronto’s No One Writes to the Colonel eatery last night to watch a good movie for a good cause and raise nearly $2,000 for Christian Children’s Fund of Canada’s (CCFC) Ethiopia drought-relief fund.

Difret — a film about an Ethiopian girl put on trial for killing the man who kidnapped her for an early, forced marriage — offers insight into the African country, which is currently grappling with the worst drought in 50 years.

“Movie for a Cause was an opportunity for CCFC supporters to come together with the Toronto community to learn more about the drought, which has left 10-million people in need of food aid,” said Lyndsay Wallis, CCFC communications coordinator and event co-organizer. “We were so grateful for the outpouring of support and to those willing to open their heart and help children and families in need. We sincerely thank our sponsors and donors.”

CCFC has been engaged in Ethiopia for nearly 30 years and has been working with the Ethiopian Government to provide food aid and educational support to drought victims since January.
