⌛Where Are They Now: Imurana’s journey from sponsored child to teacher and future lawyer

Imurana’s journey from sponsored child to teacher

Learn how former sponsored children have been empowered by sponsorship helping them live the life they choose.

The most challenging time for me and my family was when my father fell sick with a stroke, after being hit by a car. It was difficult to cope with seeing my father that way. He couldn’t move the entire left side of his body, so he couldn’t work as a driver anymore. Because he was the provider for our family, it put a big burden on my mother.

Having a sponsor in Canada had a positive impact on me and my community by providing resources for education, healthcare, infrastructure and our overall wellbeing. It was a big help in my life. If he was here now, I would give him a hug and tell them ‘thank you very much’.

Choosing to keep his dreams alive

My education helped me to become a teacher, which I enjoy. And today I am married and we have a son who is almost two.

But my career goal growing up was to be a lawyer. I haven’t achieved that yet, but I have not given up on that dream because I would like the opportunity to serve, protect and defend the rights and interests of children, the needy and minorities in society.

As a teacher, I always encourage my students that there’s always hope. All they have to do is concentrate and stay focused on what they want to become.
