Shining the spotlight on an issue already impacting our world and our work

This week, on April 22, 190+ countries across the globe will recognize Earth Day, observing ways everyone can get involved to create a more sustainable future for the world.

Those in developing countries are often more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, which heightens challenges in food security, child protection, migration and more. We explain more about that in a blog posted this week. It’s about the impact climate change has on the countries where we work and the ways we’re involved in reducing risks and our carbon footprint.

There are many ways people are getting involved this Earth Day to draw attention to sustainability. Here are just a few awareness activities in the countries we work:

Ghana

  • Earth Care Ghana,a youth focused organization is hosting a volunteer-based neighborhood clean-up in Ejisu and neighbouring towns.

Ethiopia

  • Admin at a school in Mekanisa, Addis Ababa believe youth are our planet’s future. They’re encouraging students to speak up during their Earth Day ceremony to discuss important national and international environmental issues. And, students from the community’s high school will lead a neighbourhood clean-up.

India

  • Veliyancode MTM College, in Southern India, is marking Earth Day with a week-long campaign. Those involved are investing in our future by collecting plastic waste and planting trees.
  • Sipna, a nature reserve located just outside of Pune in Gorhe Khurd, will be hosting an event to share their conservation efforts — such as beekeeping, river conservation, seed collection and composting.

Canada

No matter your location, age or socio-economic background, there are ways to get involved this Earth Day to help make a difference.

You can even help from home. Give a green gifts to vulnerable communities facing compounded challenges sparked by climate change.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance:

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
