Social enterprise conference debuts in developing country

Last week marked a gathering of minds to exchange ideas on social collaboration and investment

Despite current unrest in Ethiopia, last week it was home to the 11th annual Social Enterprise World Forum where entrepreneurs from around the world gathered.

It was the first time a developing country hosted the conference, and it was a fitting location. “Social enterprises are making a huge impact in Africa and Ethiopia, because they’re tackling really serious issues, like empowering women,” explained Rakeb Yilma, a marketing representative for Ellilta, a business that supports women through the sale of jewelry and scarves. “You empower women, you empower a generation. Then you make a better future for society.”

At Children Believe, among other activities, we encourage social enterprise through women and youth groups, which save and loan money as a community.

You can help spur social change, too. Support our gift catalogue today.
