WHO chief voices concerns over COVID-19 vaccine distribution worldwide

Learn how Children Believe is providing support until vaccines reach the most vulnerable

As Canadians hear news that COVID-19 vaccines are running low at home, a disparity remains in other countries around the world.

While 39-million doses of vaccines were administered in nearly 50 countries worldwide, just 25 have been given in one lowest-income nation, noted Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, World Health Organization (WHO) chief recently.

António Guterres, secretary-general for the United Nations, voiced his concern for developing countries, noting it’s time to start a new chapter. “With smart policies and the right investments, we can chart a path that brings health to all, revives economies and builds resilience,” he said. “But developing countries must have the necessary resources to do so.”

Meanwhile, India, which reported the second-highest cases after the U.S., is aiming to vaccinate 300-million of its 1.36-billion population in what is being called the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination program. India is also home to one of the vaccines.

Children Believe is continuing to monitor the regions where we work, including India. We’re providing PPE, food rations and educational materials as needed. We’re also working to ensure schools are equipped with clean water and toilets to help prevent spread of the virus.
