How can gender stereotypes influence what we become as adults?

Watch this video explaining the impact gender stereotypes can have on youth and children growing up

Gender stereotyping can hold girls back from enjoying equal opportunities with boys. The video below, by the European Institute for Gender Equality, reminds us how much this practice can shape and influence children’s futures.

“When we encounter the same stereotypes again and again, they begin to feel natural and to shape our preferences and career paths,” says the video’s narrator, noting this happens through social institutions. The video further explains that men often secure better paid jobs due to these societal influences.

At Children Believe, we help girls develop knowledge, skills, confidence and leadership skills so they can participate in decision-making within our programs and in their communities. Imagine the difference they will make and the opportunities they’ll have with the right skills and resources.

Give the gift of education so girls and boys can dream fearlessly.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.
