Burkinabe governor shows support for disaster-resilience project

An initiative aimed at improving the well-being of children and families in a vulnerable community impresses local government

Banogo, Burkina Faso is prone to droughts and floods, leading to food insecurity. So, it was gratifying to see our efforts to address these issues recently praised by the Governor of the Eastern region.

“We are satisfied by the great work being done in this area to support communities in building resilience. This experience should be duplicated in other villages,” said Col. Ousmane Traoré (above, left), governor of the Eastern Region, after visiting Banogo where Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) is working with the World Food Programme and ChildFund Korea.

The changes in the community include addressing food shortages due to natural disasters. “We are initiating a school garden, which will not only provide food to improve the school canteen, but will also be a place where children will be learning how to garden,” affirmed Jeremie Ouangrawa, CCFC’s country director in Burkina Faso.

The governor was impressed with how the community is at the centre of planning new activities, along with local authorities, relevant partners, communities and beneficiaries.

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
