Celebrating delivery of medicine within and beyond our program borders

By Rosanna Menchaca, communications manager, Paraguay

Our partnership with Canada’s HPIC and Paraguay’s government is helping provide urgent healthcare support

Thanks to the invaluable support of our partners at HPIC, Children Believe donated 24,000 doses of meropenem to Paraguay’s Ministry of Health.

We’re contributing to the ministry’s response to provide the antibiotic — used to treat meningitis, pneumonia and other infections — to the population in greatest need.

It’s part of an agreement that ensures the delivery of medicine by the Paraguay government to our programs and beyond.

“This cooperation with the Minister of Health transcends the traditional territories of cooperation of our programs and extends to the national level,” explains Jorge Méndez Rheineck, our country director in Paraguay. “It constitutes a significant achievement thanks to the joint work of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare and our organization.”

A medicine shipment makes a difference in our program communities

Together with our local partners Fundación Alda, Global Infancia and ONG Crecer, in Paraguay, the medication shipment ensures we’re better prepared to continue supporting the health and well-being of our communities, including…

  • the delivery of essential health services for mothers and newborns
  • facilities and supplies
  • access to health services

How else do we provide healthcare support in our program communities?

In our last fiscal (2021-2022), more than 18,800 children and 11,500+ adults benefited from nutrition and food support — a key factor in keeping healthy.

Meanwhile 24,900+ children, young women and mothers improved their use of maternal and newborn professional healthcare services and their nutritional intake, among other actions.

What other medication has provided lifesaving support in the past?

This recent delivery of medicine is one of many. For example, last year, we were thankful 9,700+ doses of atorvastatin could help prevent cardiovascular diseases and one-million doses of albendazole could treat parasitic worms in 2019.
