⌛Where Are They Now: Priscilla’s journey from sponsored child to registered nurse

When I was younger, I was very shy and had a lot of trouble standing up and talking in front of people. But programs organized by Children Believe really helped me. From elementary school to senior high school, I received support through a sponsor. I can now stand in front of a crowd and speak with confidence.

I wanted to become a nurse and I accomplished my dream. I love my profession because it gives me the opportunity and knowledge to take care of my patients, whether I’m treating the sick so they heal, or helping the healthy prevent illness. My new ambition is to take my skills further to become a midwife and possibly a gynecologist in the near future.

Looking back at 28 years old, I can say that being a part of the program meant a lot to me because it met my basic needs and provided me with the school materials that made it possible for me to learn and be happy in school. My community also benefited from social amenities like toilets, pipe-borne water and much more. We are all so grateful.

If I hadn’t been sponsored, I’m sure I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to stay in school. I wouldn’t have become who I am today.
