The UN’s Transforming Education Summit aims to help students around the world

Paris pre-event sparks conversation on education aid.

World leaders, representing 100 countries, are joining in Paris this week to begin the conversation about how to help education systems in the world’s low-income countries. This comes as data from the World Bank shows low- and middle-income countries are far behind meeting educational targets for the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, conceived to make a better world for everyone by 2030.

The UNESCO pre-event will highlight issues to be addressed at the UN’s Transforming Education Summit to be held in September by the United Nations. “The Summit [will be] a significant opportunity to spotlight the “silent” and “invisible” education crisis that has been exacerbated by school closures caused by COVID-19,” says Stefania Giannini, head of education at UNESCO.

Event participants at the September Summit will discuss how to recover pandemic-related learning losses, reimagine education systems and revitalize national and global efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, which is a quality education for all.

At Children Believe, we help children access education, so they can achieve the extraordinary. During the past few years, we’ve helped children access education through the pandemic and continue to help break barriers — such as increased child marriages — keeping kids out of school.

About Children Believe

Children Believe works globally to empower children to dream fearlessly, stand up for what they believe in — and be heard. For 60+ years, we’ve brought together brave young dreamers, caring supporters and partners, and unabashed idealists. Together, we’re driven by a common belief: creating access to education — inside and outside of classrooms — is the most powerful tool children can use to change their world.

About Childfund Alliance:

A member of ChildFund Alliance, Children Believe is part of a global network of child-focused development organizations working to create opportunities for children and youth, their families and communities. ChildFund helps nearly 23-million children and their families in 70 countries overcome poverty and underlying conditions that prevent children from achieving their full potential. We work to end violence against children; provide expertise in emergencies and disasters to ease the harmful impact on children and their communities; and engage children and youth to create lasting change and elevate their voices in decisions that affect their lives.
