We ended the year celebrating a great achievement in Burkina Faso.

Our partner, EE/SIM (Eglise Evangelique de la Société Internationale Missionnaire), which implements our program work in East Burkina Faso, was awarded the National Order of Merit from the Tapoa province for its contribution to the communities of Diapaga, Mahadaga and Logobou.

“It’s a great honour to know our action is much appreciated by local authorities,” said Limaba Tankoano, program coordinator who accepted the medal on behalf of EE/SIM for its work helping 2,000 sponsored children with more than 20 years of service.

Christian Children’s Fund of Canada’s (CCFC) partnership with EE/SIM, which began in 1991, has led to improved access to education, clean water and skills-development.

There’s been growth despite the fact that the Eastern region is one of the country’s least-privileged communities. “When we were settling in Mardaga, there was no school in the area. We built the first primary school and then inspired the building of several others,” explains Limaba. “Former sponsored children are now teachers, nurses and development agents working at non-governmental organizations.

These achievements are possible thanks to CCFC supporters. Although we’re proud to receive such an honour, there’s still much to be done. Our commitment remains strong.
